The portrayal of Religion in Arrested Development

The portrayal of religion in Arrested Development is an incdredibly interesting research topic, without an abundance of scholarly work. I believe this is because of the show's initial three season run, they did not really have the opportunity to adress religion in the ways other shows like The Simpsons and South Park have. But in spite of that, Arrested Development still adresseed religion both directly and indirectly.

This website will cover the presence of religion in the show and compare the representation of it to The Simpsons and South Park. These topics will include: the Veal family, religion within the Bluth family, and their embodiment of the seven deadly sins.

Arrested Development consistently references religion and they land somewhere between The Simpsons and South Park, because they do not openly critique it like South Park, but their portrayal of religious characters is heavily rooted in satire. They do not seek to offend like South Park, but their portrayal of religion is still likely to offend religious people and groups.
